Exclusive: Watch Nathalie Arteel’s keynote at the Happiness@Work Conference about building a positive company culture.
On 28 June 2022, Nathalie Arteel gave a workshop for more than 200 HR and business leaders at the World’s #1 ‘Happiness at Work & Wellbeing Conference’ in Antwerp. Nathalie explained how to build a positive company culture where people go the extra mile. And how to connect your employees with your mission and values.
Here are the three most important takeaways from the workshop:
- a positive culture is the foundation for a healthy and successful organization;
- changing your culture starts with connecting your people emotionally;
- you cannot build a positive culture without having a vivid vision.
Compare your culture with a magnet. If you succeed in building a positive environment, you will not only attract new talent, but you will also be able to retain your high performers and increase your engagement in general. Positive company culture equals prosperity, it equals increased productivity and higher profitability. Building a positive culture will make your company more successful.
As Peter Hinssen, the famous Belgian tech entrepreneur says:
“If you want to prepare for the day after tomorrow, you need to start building a strong cultural foundation.”
Some key figures
Let’s look at some company culture statistics, a study conducted by TeamStage in March of this year. The statistics show that company culture is an important factor for 46% of job seekers. They show that millennials prioritize people and culture fit above anything else. And by the way: in less than two years 75% of our working population will be millennials. And the third thing I want to highlight is that having highly engaged employees can lead to a 202% increase in performance.
Why do many companies struggle or fail to build a positive culture? According to a study by Mckinsey, it is more than 80%!
Nathalie Arteel:
“A good culture is the product of daily habits, of small changes, not once in a lifetime transformation.”
What if we make small improvements daily. What if we get 1% better every day? Improving by 1% isn’t sometimes even not noticeable, but if you can get 1 percent better each day during 365 days, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better, according to James Clear, author of ‘Atomic Habits’.
